This video was extremely informational. I enjoyed every minute of it and found it to be very empowering. Is too much information a good or bad thing? I think that the more one knows, the more capable and self-reliant that person will be. Gathering and using technology will become normalcy at work because that is the direction that this generation is headed. The video talked a lot about literacy and knowledge, and when one has a lot of knowledge, that person has the capability to change lives and be very powerful.
I thought the acronym of the word DISCOVER was great. It stood for:
D-efine
I-nquire
S-earch
C-ollect
O-rganize
V-erify
E-xpress
R-eflect
People are constantly searching for something, whether it is knowledge, information, or sense of self. Whatever it is, discovering new information has the ability to be extremely empowering.
The video focused a lot on guiding students, and teachers, to appreciate digital literacy by teaching the act of discovering. Discovering is fun, at at times can be very easy. It is what you do with your discoveries that is the important part. That is where the DISCOVER acronym comes in handy.
I also liked how the video takes the word DISCOVER and walks you through the process of research step by step. This process teaches great collecting, organizational, and research skills, skills that both teacher and student will benefit greatly from. It also teaches students to become more self-sufficient researchers, discoverers and learners.
Marc Van Doren, a poet on this video, states, "The art of teaching is the art of assisting." This is a great quote because I believe that literacy is our most invested tool...one that has the ability to take you anywhere!
