The 2007 National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S) are:
1. Creativity and Innovation
2. Communication and Collaboration
3. Research and Information Fluency
4. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making
5. Digital Citizenship
6. Technology Operations and Concepts
I am not a teacher yet, however, I have seen some classrooms use technology to benefit instruction and learning, and I have also seen teachers not use this wonderful source of teaching at all. I believe all six standards have the ability to be implemented successfully with the appropriate use of a qualified teacher. All six must be practiced and effectively carried out to see whether or not the process is working. From the classrooms i have seen, Standards 1, 2, and 4 have been implemented well. Every student has their own ability to be creative and they believe what they create is great. I have also seen students take part in the collaboration process and use it to his/her benefit. Students that are not used to or like working with others find themselves in a different but enjoyable place when working with technology. The last one, I have also seen students problem solve-together-and work through questions to derive at an answer. I feel that I am still learning a lot about technology and I still have a lot to learn. Doing anything on a computer, especially educational activities, has the ability to be groundbreaking. With the practice and help from colleagues and students, I will be able to meet all these standards in my future as an educator. I am still learning and hopefully after the completion of this course, I will be much more ready to implement these standards in my classroom one day.
